There is so much to learn and unlearn ~ Janet Momanyi
Meet Janet Momanyi, administrative assistant taking the Virtual Assistant program to enhance her tech skills and make a lasting impact in her community.
They call her Janty. It's shorter, catchier, and a moniker that somehow fits better with the whirlwind of energy she seems to carry around(because Janet Momanyi seems like a name for an adult woman who works in human resources name, sindio?) When she’s not about charity work or community service, Janty’s probably somewhere fitness and wellnessing lol. Yup, definitely that person that most would refer to as a ‘people person’, Her Kisii folks back home even call her “ng’ina banto,” which basically translates to "a person who loves everyone" in her native language. Yup, Janty definitely looks like she loves people!
Janet's journey in the corporate world has been marked by hard work and dedication. Before she jumped into the exciting world of tech, she was quickly climbing the ladder at her current job. It started with a small step as a front office intern, and before she knew it, she was promoted to an administration assistant after 4 months of engagement, thereafter, due to her passion and hard work, got another promotion as Administration officer - which saw her handle multiple tasks like being an Executive Assistant to their Executive Director! It was a huge step, but she knew there was more she wanted to achieve. She wanted to level up her skills and do something that would really make a difference. That's when she stumbled upon an ALX ad on social media and decided, "Why not?" and immediately she signed up!
The allure of the tech world was undeniable. "Growing up as a millennial, I used to think tech space was mostly for males," Janet admits. But witnessing the success of her female friends in the industry, she was like, hold up… I want in on the action, and that inspired her to break into this exciting field. “The potential for innovation and solving real world problems is also incredibly thrilling."
One of the biggest things Janet wants to tackle with her new tech skills is closing the digital divide. "I believe technology can be a powerful tool for empowerment," she explains. "By acquiring new tech skills, I hope to contribute to projects that create opportunities for those who may be disadvantaged."
If she could go back and tell her 18-year-old self something, it would be, "Girl, what’chu doing? learn about money!" It’s gonna save you a lot of headache. No, but seriously, If only I got it right I would make better informed financial decisions early in life, however all is not lost! I have since worked on my finances and it is still work in progress. There is so much to learn and unlearn.”
Her biggest inspirations?,”my parents,my parents are my rock. They taught me the importance of hard work, being a good person, and always believing in myself. My spiritual mentor helped me see that. And then there’s Fred Swaniker, a total boss who inspires me to make a difference in people’s lives, strive for excellence and continuously improve my skills by #doinghardthings”
